Garbage disposal....
Permalink Closed

Is it possible to have a garbage disposal in an RV??  I mean I know it's possible to install one, but will it cause problems??  I can do without a dishwasher, but I'd really love a garbage disposal!!  We're going FT and will have our new "home" in about a week!!

Not a great idea, even residentially they cause clogs, large amounts of water are required for smooth operation.....

They are available on some brands.  Like Gene, I feel they would be a problem.  You would be putting all of the garbage into your grey tank making it the same as a black tank with no way to properly flush it clean.  Residues would accumulate and in my opinion cause issue.  We try to keep as much food residue as possible out of the grey tank.

Although we have one in the summer house we don't use it much. It's quicker to put stuff in a plastic garbage bag ("Walmart bag")and walk out to the garage where the dumpster is.

In the motor home stuff goes into the same kind of bag and is put it in the collapsible trash can/bag outside. I wouldn't want the ground up stuff collecting in the gray tank even though it should flush out when I dump.

Remember that the feed pipe for the grey tank dump is often 1-1/2" diameter so it does not dump as fast or well as the 3" black tank pipe.

Waste King L-3300 Legend Series 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Operation Garbage Disposer is the modern best garbage disposal brand known to me so far. It has longest warranties in the industry. By following instructions , it is very easy to install , just follow the instructions. I personally suggest to have its experience at least once.

I have one in my fifth wheel. Pretty sure they are standard for DRV.

You could always carry a couple chickens (as they are lighter and more compact than goats or pigs.) You can then eat the chicken eggs, (think of chickens as waste recycling plants) and when they are done laying, hens are edible too.
Of course you still must dispose of the feathers, bones and such, but that's not very often.

If the CG says anything just tell them they are just morbidly obese parrots. Then turn the tables on the CG host or manager to deflect further criticism by chastising the manager for not being sensitive to your pet's weight disability.

LOL Chip.  Might be better to claim those chickens were service animals, nobody is gonna believe they are obese parrots.biggrin

Good idea biggaRView. Now all we have to do is make little orange vests for them.

I see a cottage industry developing.

I have seen some in DRV 5the wheels. They have a separate kitchen gray tank specifically for that. I don't think I would want one going to my regular gray tank.

New DRV units do have a garbage disposal in addition to the dishwasher.
I don't think it has its own gray tank, but the rig does come with a gray tank flush, just like the black tank flush, to help remove food particles.
Not sure how much I would want to use it though.

I wish every tank had a flush system, especially the galley.  I agree with Jack that the garbage disposal is a bad idea, but a flush system would help guard against the issues that arise when food particles do get down the galley drain.

We wouldn't have a garbage disposal in a house and especially our coach.

They take up an enormous amount of space under the sink when kitchen cabinet space is a premium. We choose not to have it in our Mobile Suites and just use a plastic sack as others have suggested. You don't have to wait for garbage pickup like the S&B.
