Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

For Sale: Volvo 610 RV Hauler - the ultimate tow vehicle SOLD

We have purchased a new (to us) Volvo 780, so our current truck is for sale. This truck will easily pull any trailer on the market, is extraordinarliy comfortable, and is as easy to drive as a dually pickup (and approximately the same wheelbase). It maneuvers far better than any pickup because it has a short wheelbase and a 50* wheelcut. Plus the hitch is 3'+ bhind the axle centerline so (unlike a pickup) you can easily jacknife the trailer into spots a pickup can not.

Meticulously maintained, and has never broken down in the almost 10 years we have used it for fulltime RVing.

1999 Volvo 610

Cummins ISM 400 hp/1450 torque

  • 613,000 miles in January 2013 (sounds like a lot, but is low miles for a road tractor).
  • Autoshift transmission (only clutch on stop or start)
  • Full hauler body with lots of storage (built by Herrin Haulers)
  • Trailersaver hitch with third airbag for 7500lb pin weights
  • Two new Ultraleather air ride seats
  • Air/hydraulic (BluDot) OR electric trailer connections (Hensley TruControl Gold actuator in truck for electric connections)
  • Two cameras and monitor for truck, with two other inputs wired for the trailer. Truck has backup and side-view camera.
  • Titled as a motorhome in TX
  • Refrigerator, microwave, shore power, 1800 watt inverter with AC outlets on dash and in back of cab
  • Double bunk - top bunk drops down to create a seat-back for the lower bunk.
  • Good rubber, aluminum wheels
  • Satellite-capable radio
  • Computer workstation swivels for navigator or driver

This truck is a short wheelbase tractor, originally configured to be an excellent daily driver.  The deck is designed to carry an ATV or motorcycle and still tow a 5th wheel. It WILL NOT carry a smartcar, and may or may not carry a side-by-side ATV. That remains to be determined.

Lots more info, pictures, video, and pricing can be found in the info sheet here.

RE: For Sale: Volvo 610 RV Hauler - the ultimate tow vehicle

To any needing, or wanting an HDT, I’ve seen it and can recommend it. It’s RV ready to go and is a “legal RV / motorhome” as far as licensing is concerned due to Jack’s modifications.

We just don’t need an HDT. But if we did it wouldn’t be for sale. Don’t let the mileage concern you.  This truck is in excellent condition.

If you’re looking at a heavy trailer, above ~20K IMO, I would seriously consider this rig.

(I don’t get commission.  I’ve just seen Jack’s work.)

Thanks, Bill. It is a nice truck and has been real good to us. We have never had a real problem with it. But I do lots of maintenance to make sure the truck is always road-ready.

For those not familiar with large truck engines - these trucks are designed to run 24hrs a day and put on 10K miles a month in team operation. This truck has pretty low miles.

Because I've received many questions on the same points I put together a little sheet that answers some of these common questions. Take a look at "A Note About Owning and Driving an RV Hauler Semi-Truck". This is mainly oriented to people not familiar with these trucks and that would compare them to an F450-class vehicle. If there are any questions I'm happy to answer them.
