Introduce myself to the solo group.

Hello everyone I'm John 58 and will start fulltime next June or July 2013 as a solo, I;m in the process of getting everything put together for my adventure, I just sold some property a few weeks ago and will be able to get myself out of debt and pay cash for a RV. The next step will be selling my home after the first of the year, my niece is going to buy my house and she is nice enough to let my use one of the clothes closets to store my income tax papers, I'm  trying to get stuff cleaned out of the house now I didn't know I had so much stuff, I will still have rental property that will be my source of income while on the road. So far everything is going as planned, it is just taking some time and effort to get it all put together.

If I can just figure out my health insurance, the insurance companies don't make that very easy. I still have several months to work on it and get it figured out.

My biggest fear travelling solo is getting sick on the road and not having anyone there to help. I try not to think about it, but it is on the back of my mind.

Anyway hope to see you on the road next summer.

John: Hello and Welcome. There will be many people on this forum who will share their experience with most ?'s you have. It can be painstaking trying to get all of our ducks in a row. I was on the road for one year doing seasonal work camping jobs before I found out from a fellow-work-camper that I qualified for income contingent health care for the Veterans Administration.
This past March I had been at a work camping job in Ky and on the 30th day of March ended up in a Community hospital with a heart attack after being through a complete physical by a VA Medical Center in Sept. 2010 and had no idea that the 236 LDL reading was the warning symptom. I went to a Community hospital where they did three stent angioplasties and an balloon-angioplasty on a smaller artery all in the heart. The VA paid the hospital and in hospital doctor charges. I have to pay for 3 office visits that are not life-or-death emergencies.
I have to follow a stricter diet; have to refrain from my ice cream addiction; stopped smoking ( my attitude still sucks ), take medications and exercise to control any weight gain; which I protest because I am thin.
Good Sam and some other RV related companies have emergency medical advice on care and also will fly your relatives or appointed person to a hospital; they will also transport your vehicle back to your residence if you are away from your home base. Like I stated: Others may have more experienced advice. PIEERE

Welcome to the RV-Dreams family. Sounds like your plans are coming along well.
I can't imagine most RV'ers NOT HELPING someone in trouble or sick, especially Dreamers.
We look forward to hearing more from you.
Pieere, I love your attitude about your situation and your health challenges, you smile right thru it all.

Safe travels,
~sherry

Hi Pieere and Sherry, Thank you for the welcomes. Pieere I too have had some heart issues in the past about 10 years ago went in the emergency room with (A fib) an electrical problem with my heart, I spent a couple days in the hospital with all the tests they think it was caused by stress and high blood pressure but the doctors weren't real sure. I take medication to control it and haven't had a problem since.
thanks for the info about Good Sams I will do more research on that, I also know that Escapees have a care facility in Livingston. When the time gets closer for me to hit the road I will probably join both clubs.
I have been self employed my whole life and have carried my own health insurance, I have anthem now, I would like to become a resident of South Dakota and called anthem to see if they could transfer my current policy to South Dakota they told me no, that they would issue me a new policy just like I have now once I get to South Dakota under a different anthem company name, so I called an insurance agent in South Dakota to ask them about it and he said when they see the mail forwarding address they will not issue a policy. That is where I stand on the insurance as of now, worse case is stay a resident of Indiana keep my present insurance and pay the high taxes here.
I gave myself a good year to get everything in place to start my adventure, I knew it would take that long, it started out slow but the last couple of months the time seems to be flying, and the end of Oct. I will be going down to south Texas for a couple of months for a get away, I have been doing that a couple years now, I rent a cabin in a RV park down there and I get to pick the brains of all the RVers there and get to see there rigs and there hookups and what they like and dislike and how they do things.
Everything is working out fine so far, and still on time for a June or July 2013 take off, that is when my niece wants to move into the house so it is nice to have a kickoff date when I have to get out of the house otherwise I could see it dragging out a lot longer. I;m taking it one step at a time, getting one thing done and then moving on to the next.
Looking forward to seeing on the road.

I can't help you with insurance since I get mine through the VA also. As far as being alone, I think alot depends on where you are and how long you stay. RVers are the friendliest group of people I have ever known. My husband passed away very suddenly last year and we were at a campground in Florida at the time. You would not believe how people in the park that I didn't even know where willing to help in any way. But I have to say this RV Dreams family is outstanding. We have met quite a few of them over the last few years since the 1st RV Dream rally in Branson. They have become true friends. They were all there to help when I was at my lowest...You can really count on them. I suggest you get yourself to one of Howard and Linda's rally's. You won't be disappointed and I bet you will make life long friends.

I am a regular in the chatroom, come on in some night and join us.

Good luck with your plans.. It is the best life ever!

(I just realized this post was last year, oh well)
