Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Tim, if you get banned, send word on where you go. I will join you. (I bet Racerguy will come too.)

Well said.

I don't think Tim will be banned.Howard runs a tight but fair ship and will send a gentle admonition if appropriate. As long as it doesn't go much further I think it'll be o.k.jm2cw

If we lived in one of the middle eastern countries, the "state" would be after us in a snap for expressing our thoughts. I am thankful that we live in a country that is founded on freedom. Racerguy zoomed into the core of the issue, too many politicians and too few statesmen. Melstar's message is well stated.

Sorry guys, but I come to this forum to read about RVing.

This has been my  haven away from politics and religion.

Please don't go there.

I am onboard with the last 2 posters. It is so easy to get into nasty discussions on religion and politics and we all come from different places and backgrounds. Our experiences are different and views on life are different. I respect that this is your opinion but this is not the place to debate it. One of the things I appreciate about this forum is the civility with which it comes. Hope you will respect that.

I have deleted my post. The criticisms were well taken and valid.... this isn't the place for posts like that, and there are plenty of other alternatives available on the web.

My apologies to everyone on this forum. Thanks for setting me straight and refocusing me on what this forum is all about. Sometimes I let my frustrations get the better of me, much to my regret.

Tim,

Glad I was able to read your reply before it was deleted.  I do agree with what you posted and I also agree that this isn't the place for political/religion debates.

Maybe Howard would consider a "Hotbox Thread" so those (RV Dreams Members) that would like to post on topics other than rv related ones, would have an area to do so.  It could be called the "Enter at Your Own Risk Forum" ...lol.  JMO

Happy Camping:)

Well, I guess I found the thread that was referred to in a PM to me.

While I didn't get to read Tim's comments, from the comments that followed, I can just imagine what might have been said.

That said, even we as RV'ers should be concerned with the politics of our country.  After all, it is the freedoms that this country affords us that allows us to follow our dreams.  And, it is the politicians of this country that can tax us or regulate us out of those dreams.

I don't see a problem with comments about politics or religion, so long as no one is mentioned personally.   While some may not like even the hint of religion or politics within discussions, at least politics has the capability of affecting our daily lives by impacting our freedoms or our funds with which to follow our freedoms of choice.  If fuel prices get high enough, how many of us will even be able to contemplate the RV life?

Now, having said THAT, I don't agree with any semblance of someone verbally attacking someone in forums because they don't agree with them.  That should never be done, and while I didn't get to read Tim's post, I have to doubt that he said anything critical of another forum participant.  I've never met Tim, but I've read enough of his posts to know something of his character.

There are forums where a poster may get critical of another forum participant, and I choose to avoid those forums, unless I am looking for an answer to a question that could be answered there.  If I don't like what is being said, I just don't participate.  That, too, is one of the freedoms of choice.  Participate or not, but let's not criticize anyone for expressing an opinion.

Terry

One of the key reasons that this blog has survived and indeed flourished for almost 5 years now. is that we have ALWAYS avoided any discussion of religion. or politics.

Yes, both these topics are very important to many forum members lives, but this is not the place to express them. This forum is about full time RVing and getting into the life. Neither your religious beliefs, or your political outlook has any bearing on the subject.

There are more than enough forums available to express your views on these subjects, but this isn't one of them.

I agree with Fred. If you want to see how these threads can get out of control go to the Escapees forum sometime and you will understand why we try to avoid this as much as possible.Melanie did the right thing and refered it away from the forum. So far this one has been civil but COULD turn on a dime.

Great post I really enjoyed reading and agree with it whole hearted. We in the public work force my wife and  I have not had a pay increase in two years while our pay check have gone down due to insurance cost increase. we have gone from paying a small amount to paying 50% of our health insurance. Yet we are glad to have jobs and keep making adjustment in our life styles.
Thanks again for your post, you said was what we all are thinking.
