Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Not On the Road Yet But...

I have started part-time work as a virtual assistant!  Right now I'm on my second Web research project.

Not that I really wanted a second job right now...like I don't have enough to do anyway...but I was testing the marketplace and was hired!  YIKES and WHOOPPEE!

Starting now will give a little side $$ for our full-timing startup fund, provide some experience in this type of telecommuting, and hopefully give me time to establish myself in the virtual assistant arena so I can take on more assignments once we hit the road full-time.

Having this as a supplemental source of income will, of course, help the finances once we're on the road.  It will hopefully also give us more flexibility in what workamper positions we choose.  If the workamper position is something we really want but is not great on compensation, we will at least have this.  Hopefully.

This is what I envisioned years ago when I was planning my future life as a solo full-timer, although the term "virtual assistant" was not so commonplace.  At that time I was intending to continue working as a remote medical transcriptionist.

It's so cool to see one's dreams start to take on life.

I am honored that I was hired so swiftly.  As my Reiki mentor used to say....

"Pray and DUCK ! "

biggrin wink

I've also been researching virtual AA as a ways to support us.  Could you let me know what company you got hired by and what process you experienced?  I won't be ready for awhile yet either...both the jobs I have now are over in July and then have to wait until April 2011 for Husband's last day.  Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!smile

I've always thought one of the best ways to supplement your income while FT'ing has been through jobs using a broadband connection. There are many telecommute type jobs available, especially call center ones. The only drawback is that you do need a solid connection especially if you are going to be taking calls using a vonage or skype type service (voip). I, too, fell into a part time job through this method by coincidence. I took it for now just to experiment but what I have found is that a satellite connection for voip type services is not reliable. Too much echo, delay and choppiness on the call. Anyone have a similar experience and if not, who are you using for the satellite connection.

A couple of legitimate sites to check out for virtual work are www.elance.com & www.guru.com.  A variety of jobs or projects are listed there, from web development to writing projects.

Here is hoping all who want jobs get the ones they seek. Having that source of income would make living on the road so much more enjoyable! What could be better.
