When is the best time to buy an RV?

I was wondering what part of the year is the best time to buy an RV price wise. I was thinking in the end of Summer when most RVing activity has stopped but I have never purchased an RV so I would like to know what you guys think.

End of summer is when a lot of people who use their rig a lot decide this is the last year to use X.  We found the best prices in the dead of winter Feb.  When the snowbirds all have their rig and the summer people haven't started serious shopping.

With the way the economy is, I would say anytime is a good time to buy. The dealers are hurting for sales. Private party ads I've seen, are lowering the price every couple of months trying to get an RV sold.

We bought right after a big RV show, the dealer had extra inventory and none of the dealers were happy with the volume sold at the show.

I understand Monday or Tuesday after a holiday weekend sale is also good.

Hold fast on the price you want to pay, let the seller come down to your price. There's lots of inventory sitting out there. Some dealers still have brand new 2007 units.

I agree with thebearII. The market should be in the buyer's favor even more now than it was at the beginning of this year. We purchased in January, but had begun serious bottom line discussions with two dealers in mid- to late December. At that time, they were looking at more new models coming in and they were ready to sell the year-old models. We were pleased to have a year old version as long as it was new.

Having spent close to thirty-umphse years in the marketing end of manufacturing commercial vehicles, and having purchased to MH I agree with all that has been said.

However, that extra incentive to lower the price to make a sale is near a fever at the end of a month (to make a sales quota), and especially if the end of that month is also the end of a yearly quarter.  Dealers live and die by two things - making forecast and making those last few sales before the end of a month/quarter/year end.

Key is not falling in love with the product and being able to walk away while feeling good because the deal was not right.  They will cave before you do.

Good luck, always remember which direction the money is flowing.  Believe me, sales  professionals know this and want you to buy on emotion only, not logic or value.

Also due to the economy, make sure the RV manufacturer is still in business.
You do the research, don't let the dealer convince you that the manufacturer is sound.
