Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Truck Replacement Tires, Advice Needed

I have a 2007 GMC Classic 3500 Dually Duramax that I bought 6 months ago and it now has about 20k miles on it. It will be our tow vehicle when we purchase our Carriage Cameo fifth wheel in a few months. It currently has OEM General Ameritrac 215/85R16 tires on it, and the two outer rear tires are worn to the wear bars. The inner rears are about halfway to the wear bars, and the fronts don't show hardly any wear at all. My GM dealer told me that it's not abnormal for the outer rears to wear faster due to more stress when making turns. Is it OK to replace tires two at a time, and if so, is it OK to put different brand tires on with the other original four? It would be easier financially to buy the tires two at a time, but based on the wear of these OEM tires I'd rather buy a better-wearing brand. I'm thinking about Michelin or Goodyear. Any opinions on these brands, or any other brands? And is load rating E sufficient for towing a big fiver? Thanks very much for your advice and opinions. Cheers!  Jim

I'm surprised at the poor life you've experienced with your OEM tires. I would recommend you look at the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A tires. Our 2006 Ford F350 came with the LT245/75R17 size and we just replaced them last October after 66,000 miles. Needless to say we bought the same tires and they were only $169 each mounted and balanced.
Good luck,

Hey I can't imagine any tire being that worn at 20K miles?? Did you talk to any tire folks? I would go to National Tire and Battery and ask them if this is natural wear for those tires? I have Generals on mine and they are not the best tire out there...they have 26,000 miles with at least 6,000 towing. They have plenty of tread left....I would check this out closer. You have not even towed yet with those tires??

Thanks for the comments and advice.  I decided to go ahead and replace all 4 rears with Firestone Transforce HT's.  Now I have peace of mind as we head out on a 2-week trip to the midwest.  Again, thanks everyone!  Jim
