Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Log Cabin for sale in Finger Lakes Wine Country, Upstate NY

We are selling our retirement home in the beautiful Finger Lakes area of New York State to pursue our dream of full-timing. Below is the description of our home -- our desire to travel got the best of us, and we want to do that before we get too old to! Asking $495,000 -- will consider offers!

Here's a link to our realtor's website that you may have to copy and paste into your browser for it to work: http://www.selectapro.com/bethganem/DispListing.asp?ListingID=120154&AdminID=206&PropertyType=A&BuyerID=

A 40-acre nature preserve surrounds this custom built log home located in the Finger Lakes area of central New York State. Deer, wild turkey, ducks, and great blue heron frequent the surrounding fields and pond.

The log home is designed for 4-season living, or fun-filled weekends with its vaulted-ceiling greatroom encompassing the dining and living room areas, which are flanked by a stone fireplace. The kitchen and main floor bedroom are adjacent. Overlooking all is a loft bedroom with sitting area. Additional guest space is available in the bunkhouse located across the waterfall-fed pond – which boasts a sandy beach for swimming. The abundantly windowed, walkout basement sports a wonderful entertainment space with a wet bar and game area, plus a veranda for picnicking and lounging. There are 2 full and 1 half baths.

A two-car heated garage with auto door openers is attached to the North side of the log home. Adjacent to the garage is a wood shop with stairs leading to a bonus space over the entire garage and wood shop for storage or future expansion. Across the pond is a large barn with concrete floor for additional storage.

In the summertime the "livin' is easy" with temperatures averaging in the mid-80s. The fall foliage is breathtaking on the surrounding hillsides. And when the snow flies, miles of snowmobile and 4-wheeler trails lead right out of the back yard. The pond freezes over for ice skating, and the fields become the perfect pallets for cross country skiing.

Within 20 minutes you can reach literally dozens of wineries for tasting, and natural gorges with trails that surround the spectacular Finger Lakes; a walking commons located in downtown Ithaca; or a world-famous racetrack in Watkins Glen; and shopping galore in malls and outlet centers! State-of-the-art medical centers are also only 30 minutes away such as Robert Packer in Sayre, PA; Ithaca; and Elmira.

It is a beautiful place, but we are ready to travel, travel, travel -- instead of mow, plow snow, clean and pay huge heating bills and taxes!

This website helped us realize that...

Congratulations, Can I come rub your head for good luck ?biggrin.gif We are still saddled with our acreage in a really depressed market due to high foreclosures ( one builder just went to prison for a real estate scam that made it worse) I see 7 months between posts, how did you handle the wait? We are chomping at the bit to get out of here. Enjoy your new found freedom.

Well, 7 months was the least of it!  We were actually on the market for 2 years!  So I don't know if you want that kind of luck!

It was really hard to handle the wait... as you know.  When we put it on the market it was listed at a much higher price (bad advice from the real estate agent).  Finally we got it priced right.  Plus taxes in that area are extremely high due to a state-supported tax abatement for a large lumber mill nearby that took an almost $5 million property assessment off the tax rolls for ten years.

We showed it numerous times, had a standing offer from a couple who had to sell their property first (which hadn't happened after a year), and got SO tired of living on the edge of a new lifestyle.  The folks who bought it came from another high tax area, so that didn't alarm them; plus they wanted to be in that area.  And when it happened, it happened so fast our heads were spinning!

Now we've downsized into a home base apartment that in many ways is smaller than our motorhome.... boy was that an accomplishment.  But now we're free to travel to or hearts content.  Right now we're snowbirds, but we're still considering fulltiming.

Thanks for your good wishes -- we wish you luck in selling too.  It WILL happen.

I love log cabin homes. But I fully understand your desire to go full-timing. Congratulations on the sale of your beautiful home and hope to see you down the road. Safe travels.
