Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello all.

Well, my wife ( Margaret ) and I along with our 16 year old grandson went to the Hershey pa RV show yesterday ( 09/14/07).
This was the very first Rv show we were ever to , and I must say, it was huge.

We've never rv'd before, so were just trying to figure out what we may want.
We still work, but my wife will be eligible for retirement in 6 years. My self in 10 years.  We thought about selling our house now, quiting our jobs and do the fuil time thing. The only way we could do full time is to do work Camp which I'm not opposed to at all.

Having never Rv'd before, I'm not so sure we'd want to jump in and do full timing right away.

At the show, we looked at some class c's and fith wheels.  Now, if we were just to do the vacation and or weekend trips, I think the class c would be fine.
What I'm affraid of is if we get a Class c and love it so much and we decide to do full time, the class c would not cut it. I'd worry about depreciation in the class c. We'd want a 5er for full timing of course.
So my dilemma is,( which I guess only my wife and I can answer )should we just buy the 5er setup from the get go?

Anyway, we saw some really nice 5er's and Class c's at the show though were not ready to buy.

The 5th wheels we really liked for the money were the Keystone Montanas.
The Heartlands were pretty nice to
The class c we liked were from Coachman.

I guess my wife and I still have alot of homework to do but with this great site, most of our answers are on here.

I would think when were ready, we'll buy used.
Now I do see a lot of 4 or 5 year old Montanas in the low 20's which sounds pretty good to me ( if there in good shape of course ).

We may be able to do somehthing this time next year.

Decisions decisions decisions......:)

Being that you have never RVed before, it's going to be very difficult for you to decide what you need and want. I would suggest buying a good used RV first and use it to find out more about the whole RVing thing. Unless you're a SOLO RVer, a class C probably won't have enough storage space or cargo carrying capacity for full-timing.

Most people don't keep the first RV they purchase.

Just a few suggestions from almost a yr fulltimer here. I would rent one first perhaps a Class C. I know it would only be used for a short period of time mainly during a vacation time. Get your feet wet first. Then buy if you like it buy used! Then if you find you really enjoy it again it you will probably be using it again on wkends and vacations. Like Jiim said most full timers dont keep the same RV for fulltime the first time purchase.  We have been through a Class C used, then a MH used, then a pull behind Outback new, then we decided to go full time with a McKinzie Medallion fiver used. It was not all that we wanted in a unit so bought a new Doubletree Elite 36 TKE fiver the high end of the Doubletree RV factory and love . Also truck wise it is our 3rd truck used a F-550. I think we now have it all together for full timing. Sorry this is so long but trying to explain how we achived our full time status.  Also consider all before totally selling the home and jumping!
