Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Dinette booth vs table/chairs (5th wheel)

Would like opinion from users of a dinette booth and those using free standing table and chairs (In a 5th wheel).  Thanks much.

Just my opinion, but we like the freestanding table and chairs.  It feels more like a home to us that way and that way everyone can be as comfortable as they'd like to be.  I like to sit up close to the table, while my husband likes to lean back.  We can also move the table and chairs around as well - we use one of the dining chairs for the desk.  The dinette does have extra storage, but we don't miss it and we never used our dinette as an extra place to sleep.  We do like the new freestanding chairs that have the flip up seats for storage, our next 5er will definately have those.

One of the MUST HAVES when we recently bought a Fifth Wheel was the free standing table and chairs. We, too, use one of the chairs as our computer station. (Another MUST HAVE). I really do not like the looks of a dinette type setup.

But, to each his (or her) own.

Happy RVING!!!!!

In my case I have a problem getting in and out of the booth arrangement. I like having some room to move around while at the table. I think that you will find the table and chairs are the best go for full time living.

We have the table and chairs in our fifth wheel. We were parked by a bay in in the Rockport-Fulton area in Texas and my wife suggested that it would be nice to move the table from its original position to the back next to the large picture window. (Even in a 5th wheel you are not immune to rearranging the furniture.) I unscrewed it from the floor and moved it to the back and rescrewed it to the floor. We could then sit at the table and look out at the view while we were eating and my wife could look out while doing scrapbooking. The recliners and sofa sleeper were repostioned in such a way that it felt more like a home. The TV is also easier to watch since we are not having to view it while looking over the dining table. If we had a booth we would not have been able to make this kind of move.
Guys if your wife says let's try this just make sure that the slide will go all the way in and not contact the table before you anchor it back to the floor.

We have the free standing table and chairs with the storage underneith. We've stored 2 of the chairs already to give us more room, and are thinking of actually getting rid of the table all together and replacing it with a cabinet.

We find that the table is just a storage area where we dump everything when we come in. When it's time to eat, it's too much trouble to move everything, and we end up eating off the lap desks we bought for our laptop computers, sitting in the Euro chairs. We also think the cabinet could add a lot of converient storage capacity.
Oh well, different strokes for different folks.confused

I have been looking at different floor plans and would perfer the booth. We now have table and 4 heavy chairs that came with our unit.  When we did have another rv in the past it had a booth and loved it. The table is just a clutter all for us here too.

We have a motorhome and not a 5th wheel but space is always an issue.  We had a small table with chairs that we removed completely.  Replaced it with table that will go up and down. (coffee table or eating table).  Side leafs to make it wider.  When not eating it sits in front of the side window leafs down(approx. 18" depth x 3' length) to use as a coffee table.   Mostly grandkids pictures . When eating we open the leafs and roll it in front of couch where we sit.  We feel like it gives us more inside space and multiple uses for one table.

That table sounds interesting, where did you get it?
We actually gthought of a cabinet with an expandable top, but this might work also.

We have had both dinette booths and freestanding tables and Red and I both prefer the booth arrangement. We often have our grandkids with us and need the extra bed a booth provides. Plus there is a tremendous amount of storage space beneath the seats in a booth.
I agree that the table looks better but the practicality of a booth wins for me.
Our current coach has sort of a combination. The table is fixed to the wall like a booth. And the chairs are fixed to the floor but can be adjusted forward and backward (kind of like a car seat).  And absolutely no extra storage.  More or less the worst of both worlds. We are attempting to design a custom booth that a cabinet maker friend says he will build for us.

I've taken a couple of pictures of the table but can't figure out how to attach photos to these forum responses.  If you want to see them send me your email address at hogans1947@yahoo.com and I'll send them on over.
